FREEDOM FOUNDATION for media freedom, rights and development is a Yemeni non-profit and non-governmental organization, established according to the license No.615, January 2012 from the Yemeni government.
It is founded and running by the Yemeni veteran journalist, Mr. Khaled al-Hammadi, the winner of the International Award for Press Freedom 2011 from the Canadian Journalists for Free Expression (CJFE) as first Yemeni journalist ever get this award.

Amman (Wednesday, May 22, 2013):
Freedom Foundation for media freedom, rights and development, in Yemen,

represented by its president, the journalist ,Khaled al-Hammadi participated this week in two important conferences about media freedoms in the Arab world. The first conference is (Forum for media freedom defenders in the Arab world) and the other is (The international press institute congress), which were held in the capital of Jordan, Amman.
Both conferences were attended by at least 250 of prominent journalists in the world and Arab world from major newspapers and TV channels, as well as Arab and international activists and stakeholders interested in defending media freedom.

Sana’a (Friday, 05/17/2013):
Freedom Foundation for media freedom, rights and development warned of continuing the detention of

5 journalists who were kidnapped last Wednesday by armed tribesmen in Serwah district, in the province of Mareb.
It also condemned the threat and attack on the crew of (Al Jazeera Mubasher) TV and cameraman of (Yemen Shabab) TV by policemen in the capital Sana’a, as well as the attack on the house of the news director of Aden Radio.

Sana’a (Thursday, May 9, 2013):
Freedom Foundation for media freedom, rights and development condemned violations targeted a number of journalists in the provinces of Aden,

Sana'a and Taiz during this week of the World Press Freedom, which indicates a continuous deterioration of media freedoms in Yemen.
At the same time, Freedom Foundation expressed its blessing and praise for the judgment by Press and Publications Court in Sana'a last Tuesday, in which a 250 million Yemeni riyals (about 1,163,000 $ ) as a compensation for (al-Shomoa journalism establishment ) for the damage and burning that has affected the establishment and its newspapers during the past two years, since the broke out of the change revolution in Yemen in 2011.

Yemen: Freedom Foundation calls for the release of Shaye and provide medical care for Noor and safe environment for the practicing journalism
Sana'a (3 May 2013):
As Yemen and various countries celebrating today the World Press Freedom Day, the situation of press freedom in Yemen is increasingly going from bad to worse and getting seriously in danger, following the series of violations committed against media freedoms in Yemen during the last few weeks, particularly during April, which is the worst time for journalists since the beginning term of president Abed Rabbo Mansour Hadi who came to power in February 2012.
UNESCO, the UN Human Rights Training and Documentation Centre for South West Asia and the Arab Region, Doha Center for Media Freedom, and Al Jazeera network organized the fourth regional commemoration of World Press Freedom Day, in Yemeni capital Sana’a in Sana’a from May 5 to 9, which will include a seminar on the state of media freedoms and also training workshop on the safety of journalists.

Sana’a (Saturday 27 April 2013): Freedom Foundation for media freedoms, rights and development condemned the attack targeted the crews of Aljazeera network and Sky News Arabia TV channels on Saturday morning in the province of Aden. Freedom Foundation received a statement from its reporter in Aden confirming that the cameraman of Aljazeera news, Samir al-Nemri and the correspondent of (Aljazeera Net),Yasser Hassan, have been attacked by severe beating and confiscating TV camera , as well as attempted attack on the crew of Sky News Arabia by raising the daggers on them and harass them during their journalism coverage of an big rally organized by Southern Movement in Khormaksar district, in the city of Aden.

Freedom Foundation for media freedom, rights and development expressed its extreme concern about the critical situation facing journalists in the province of Aden, where the areas of the province has often become a dangerous situation for practicing journalism.
Freedom Foundation stated that the violations affecting journalists of various specializations, orientations and fields in the province of Aden, became a cause for concern and give serious indicators that journalists in Aden became an (easy target) to attack from various parties and groups, which requires to invite all government bodies and political groups to work seriously to provide secure environment for the practice of journalism in the province of Aden and keep journalists away from targeting.

Sana'a (22 April 2013):
Freedom Foundation for media freedom, rights and development announced that the level of risk on media freedom in Yemen rose to (orange color), a high level of risk before the red color in the indicator adopted by Freedom Foundation in the classification of danger cases, following the happening of several assassination attempts for journalists and direct fire shooting on them during the past few days.
Freedom Foundation strongly condemned the assassination attempt against the journalist, Mansoor Noor, on Wednesday evening in Aden city, where he was shot by unidentified gunmen in Dar Saad district. As a result, he was relieved to the hospital and kept in the intensive care unit. Who was latterly, one of his legs has been amputated due to severe wounds caused by shooting.

Freedom Foundation for media freedom, rights and development strongly condemned the attempt to blow up the building, which includes the headquarters of (Yemen Shabab) TV and al-Masdar media establishment, on Wednesday, April 17, 2013.

The monitoring unit in Freedom Foundation received a report from (Yemen Shabab) TV and al-Masdar newspaper, confirming that the explosive device is weighing about 400 grams and placed in the window of building stairs in the 3rd floor, between the headquarters of al-Masdar newspaper and

located in a street branching from Rabat Street in Sana'a, on the West 60th. Street.

Sana’a / April 16, 2013:
Freedom Foundation for media freedom, rights and development organized today an advocacy protest in front of Yemeni cabinet, demanding freedom for

Yemeni journalist, Abdulelah Haidar Shaye, who detained since 16 August 2010. It was attended by a large crowd of journalists , human rights activists and supporters of Shaye’s case, as well as supporters of the campaign of Freedom Foundation calling for release him.
The demonstrators raised banners demanding the quick release for Shaye, and carried Shaye’s pictures and demanded both Yemeni and U.S. governments to stop Shaye’s suffering by immediate releasing him, especially that he had detained for more than 32 months so far.

Freedom Foundation for media freedom, rights and development in Yemen, launched aninternational campaign to call on the release of Yemeni journalist, Abdulelah Haider Shaye, whodetained in the political security prison on August 16, 2010 until now. The slogan of this campaign is(Free journalist, Abdulelah Haider Shaeye).
The campaign includes the following:
- Million signature campaign in a message to U.S. President, Barack Obama and Yemeni President,Abed Rabbo Mansour Hadi, in an international campaigns website, Avaaz. - Sending messages directly to both presidents of Yemen and U.S. through official canals. - Organizing a large protest in front of the prime minister office next Tuesday.
Therefore, all journalists and media colleagues, lawyers, human rights activists, media students andcivil society organizations, are kindly requested to actively contribute to the success of this international campaign through the following: - Attending physically the protest at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, April 16. - Signing an advocacy petition in the million signatures campaign in the follow web link of international campaigns website, Avaaz:
